Protests and growing dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump have reached a fever pitch, with many Americans calling for his resignation. The discontent stems from a series of controversial policies and actions that critics say have eroded workers' rights, weakened federal agencies, and prioritized corporate interests over the well-being of ordinary citizens.

Massive Job Cuts Under DOGE

One of the primary reasons for public outrage is the Trump administration's aggressive reduction of the federal workforce.  Spearheaded by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), thousands of federal employees have been laid off in recent months. These cuts have targeted critical roles, including 350 employees at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), which oversees the U.S. nuclear arsenal, and over 1,300 workers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), crippling pandemic response capabilities. Agencies like Veterans Affairs and the Forest Service have also faced significant losses, with 1,000 staff cuts in mental health services and 3,400 employees lost in wildfire management roles. These layoffs, many of which were abrupt and poorly communicated, have sparked outrage among affected workers and their communities. Critics argue that these actions undermine public safety and national security while leaving essential services understaffed.

Another reason for this protest is the erosion of worker's rights.  Since taking office, Trump has faced criticism for rolling back worker protections. His administration weakened overtime pay regulations, attempted to allow employers to pocket workers' tips, and undermined collective bargaining rights. These policies have disproportionately affected low-income workers, further widening economic inequality.

Additionally, Trump's tax cuts for corporations in 2017 were seen as favoring the wealthy while providing little relief to working-class Americans. Despite promises to restore manufacturing jobs, his tenure saw a net loss of 2.7 million jobs between 2017 and 2020—the first decline in employment under a president since 1939.

Public Backlash

The public's frustration has culminated in widespread protests across all 50 states and internationally. Demonstrators are demanding accountability for what they see as a betrayal of Trump's campaign promises to protect workers and create jobs.
