Lagos, Nigeria – Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Burna Boy has announced the release of his highly anticipated eighth studio album, titled No Sign of Weakness. In a move that has sparked widespread discussion among fans, the artist revealed that the album-and any new music he releases for the foreseeable future-will be available available exclusively for those who purchase tickets to his concerts.
Burna Boy made the announcement through his social media channels on Saturday, stating, “The ‘No Sign of Weakness’ album and any music Burna Boy drops till further notice, will strictly be for Burna Boy concert ticket buyers only. If you don’t fit into that category, go elsewhere. #Respectfully”. This means only fans who attend his upcoming shows will have access to the new project.
The decision has generated mixed reactions, particularly among Nigerian fans. Many have expressed disappointment, noting that Burna Boy has not held a headline concert in Nigeria since January 2023, effectively preventing his home-based supporters from accessing the new album. The move is seen as a strategy to reward paying fans and create a more exclusive, intimate experience for his global audience.
No Sign of Weakness follows Burna Boy’s 2023 album I Told Them..., which featured hits like “City Boys” and “Sittin on Top of the World”. While the full tracklist for the new album has not been released, Burna Boy recently held private listening sessions in the US and UK, and has teased new songs such as “Bundle by Bundle” and “Empty Chairs”. The album is expected to continue his tradition of blending Afrobeat with contemporary sounds, and will be released under Spaceship, Bad Habit, and Atlantic Records.
