A tragic incident occurred in Mayo-Belwa, Adamawa State, Wednesday afternoon, 2nd July, 2025, where a Nigerian soldier, identified as Lance Corporal hmada A., allegedly beat a young mobile phone repairer, Alkasum Ibrahim, to death. The assault reportedly happened because Alkasum was unable to complete the repair of the soldier’s girlfriend’s phone on time, which may have been due to technical difficulties or a busy schedule.

Eyewitnesses described the event as shocking and unjust. According to Sahara Reports, an witness, Nuruddeen Abubakar, stated, “The boy was just hustling, trying to make ends meet. His only ‘crime’ was not fixing a phone on time. And now, he’s dead.” After the soldier’s girlfriend complained angrily, the soldier stormed into Alkasum’s workshop, assaulted him severely, and Alkasum collapsed unconscious, dying shortly thereafter. The community was left in shock and mourning.

Following the attack, the soldier fled the scene, intensifying the outrage among Alkasum’s family and neighbors. A local youth leader condemned the act, saying, “How can someone trained to protect life become a killer over a mobile phone? This is lawlessness of the highest order.”

The Adamawa State Police Command has opened an investigation into the case but noted that the matter is currently subject to the military’s internal processes. Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed that military authorities are conducting their own inquiry and are expected to hand over the suspect for further police action.
