Alec Luhn, a 38-year-old American climate journalist, has been found alive after going missing for nearly a week during a solo hiking trip in Norway’s Folgefonna National Park, home to one of the country's largest glaciers. Luhn, an experienced outdoorsman and award-winning reporter, was last seen on Thursday, July 31, when he began his trek near the town of Odda. After he failed to return and missed his scheduled flight home, his wife, fellow journalist Veronika Silchenko, alerted authorities on Monday.

Norwegian rescue teams, supported by helicopters, drones, rescue dogs, Red Cross volunteers, and alpine experts, launched an intensive search operation in the park’s remote and challenging terrain. Severe weather, including heavy rain and rapidly rising rivers, hampered rescue efforts for several days.

CNN reports that on Wednesday, August 6, Luhn was located by a helicopter crew near the park and promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment. Family sources reports that  he sustained a leg injury but is otherwise in good condition and recovering. Luhn’s wife and supporters have expressed deep gratitude to the Norwegian authorities and volunteers for their swift and determined response.
