Defending champions Senegal kicked off their African Nations Championship (CHAN) title defense with a narrow 1–0 victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team in a tense Group D encounter at the Amaan Stadium.
Christian Gomis scored the decisive goal in the second half, securing the win for Senegal in a closely contested match. Despite Nigeria’s early dominance and efforts to control possession, they struggled to convert their chances into goals.
Nigerian head coach, Éric Chelle has described the outcome as disappointing. He expressed disappointment in his team's performance citing a lack of physical intensity and mental engagement. He credited Senegal’s superior aggression and psychological readiness as the key difference, stating that Nigeria “failed to get into the game mentally,” which proved costly at a critical moment.
Senegal’s disciplined defensive play stifled Nigeria’s attempts to break through, highlighting a tough challenge for the home-based Nigerian squad as they seek redemption in the upcoming CHAN fixtures.
