About FECA Nigeria (All You Need to Know)



FECA is an acronym which stands for Federation of Colleges Ex-Students' Christian Association. It began in the late 90s, by a group of ten young girls. More of this will be treated in the history of FECA. It is a Christian association that involves young people who love God and are passionate to see the will of God come to fulfillment on earth. 


FECA Nigeria is a religious organization, according to Facebook grouping, but to the people who know FECA more, they will tell you that FECA is more than  a religious organization. It is a brooding ground where boys are turned to soldiers for Christ, seemingly feeble men capable of taking cities. Therefore, becoming a FECAite is one of the best things that can ever happen to you as a young person out there in Nigeria who wants to fulfill destiny.

Officially, FECA Nigeria has a history, and that  is the one that you will see anytime you Google "History of FECA Nigeria", and this history also appears on most of the articles written about FECA. 
Before going into the details about FECA Nigeria, it is good to understand who a FECAite is and why are the tagged "FECA-ites".


A FECAite is an individual who is a Christian; the person can be a boy or a girl, a man or woman, who attends at least one FECA Nigeria chapter. He or she is someone who loves the things of God, and identifies with other FECAites. He also is someone who runs with the vision of FECA Nigeria (which says, "Redeeming the desolation of our land and generation) and he or she is outreach-focused. 

Speaking of being outreach-focused, it is worth knowing that outreach is one of the major focus of FECA Nigeria. FECA Nigeria aims to reach out to the feeble and the youths, the little ones in the secondary schools and primary schools who are in need of Jesus in their lives because they are in the formative years of their lives. Therefore it is good to catch them young. So FECAites go out for outreaches through their various programs which shall be discussed soon. Some of the programs that help to boost FECA outreaches are Spread, Save Generation Next, Freshers Welcome Banquet. This is what Fresher mean in FECA and Freshers Banquet. All of these are programs that we find in FECA, and FECA started in the year 1990, in the city of Calabar. FECA started in the year 1990 by ten young girls in the city of Calabar, Cross Rivers State. These young girls were led by the Spirit of God to put a lasting solution to the problems that they faced while in school. Upon leaving school in  the year 1989/1990, a group of ten girls (SS 3 students) decided to correspond with each other through letters to encourage one another in the Lord and in maintaining the high standards of integrity and righteousness. They also kept correspondence with other students of integrity who lived outside of Calabar.  The letter writing soon evolved into weekly meetings. Some other groups from PortHarcourt, and Benin City with identical meetings aligned themselves fully for the group in Calabar. Meetings also began in Enugu, Lagos, Akure as other ex-students of various Colleges became aware of this initiative.

3. FECA Nigeria Anthem

The anthem of Federation of Colleges' Ex-students Christian Association reads thus:

Here and now, in our time
We remember our God
Who  made us and loved us
And gave us Christ His  son
So we come in the love 
Of the one who  made us free
We stand in one accord
To redeem the desolation of our land and generation
As we walk with the Lord

We shall rise and shine as the light

And we shall raise the feeble knees that stoop to fall

4. FECA Nigeria Regions

FECA Nigeria has four regions (as of the time of posting). Each region comprises of zones (States). The  regional Coordinator and the Regional Secretary are the one who spear-heads the affairs at the regional level. They are responsible for the affairs of the different zones in their region and they give report concerning that to the nationals.

5. FECA Nigeria Chapters

There are so many Chapters in FECA Nigeria. In each region as mentioned above, there are zones or what you would call State. To demonstrate, let us look at the regions and the zones that comprise them, then a click will display all the chapters that are in a particular zone. 

See Zones in Eastern Region : Abia, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Benue, Corss River North, Cross River South, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers Zones.

Zones in Western Region:  Lagos, Edo, Delta, Ogun, Osun, Oyo,  Ondo, and Kogi Zones.

Zones in North-East region: Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau and Taraba Zones.

Zones in North-West region:   Abuja, Niger, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Zamfara Zones.


All the leaders are meant to serve in FECA for a period of two years. and each executive is eligible to contest again after he or she has passed screening. FECA Nigeria has continued to grow in leaps and bounds and presently she has over 120 chapters in Nigeria with membership strength exceeding 10,000.

6. National Leaders

There are always individuals who are at the top of the leadership ladder when it comes to administration. Each tenure is mandated to serve for two years and at the end of the tenure, there will be a National Convention where all FECAites from all the chapters and zones and regions would convene. This national program also features the presence of former national leaders, FECA FOSM (Senior Members Forum), guest speakers and dignitaries. It is always a huge program. This program ushers in the new set of leaders who would pioneer the affairs of the organization for the subsequent two years.  In the history of FECA, the following persons were national leaders of the organization: I start with 2014 tenure because that was when I joined FECA. It is very exciting to be in National conventions because if you are not in national convention, I don't know where you'd rather be. The 2022 National convention that ended with lots of testimonies  ushered in a new set of national leaders during the early hours of Sunday, 28th August, 2022. These new set of leaders will pioneer the affairs of FECA Nigeria for the next two years.

The national website of this prestigious organization contains all the information one needs to be able to comprehend the tenets, belief and doctrines of the organization. Record of National conventions in FECA Nigeria since 2014
In the year 2014, the National convention of FECA Nigeria held in Enugu/Abakaliki Express Road and the theme of the convention was Exceeding Grace. The date of the 2014 National convention was 20th through 24th of August, 2014. That was my very first National convention and I really enjoyed the convention because I was able to see Mummy Sade and Mummy Edak minister. (These women are two among the ten founders of FECA Nigeria).  The national president of FECA for that tenure was Pastor Ajibola Abodunde.

In 2016, there was a national convention themed Kingdom First National convention. It happened on the 17-21 of August, 2016 at Balm of Gilead City, Church of God Mission International Camp ground, Egun/Ogua communities, Benin City. The national president that tenure was Malachy Onuwa.

In the year 2018, there was a national convention that took place in Abuja, and the theme of the convention was JESUS Convention. The convention happened at Federal Government Girls College, Bwari, Abuja. Date of the convention was  15th to 19th August, 2018 and the national president during that tenure was Oluwaseyi Ashiru.

Also, in the year 2020, Kingdom Addicts Convention held in Port Harcourt. The national president during that national convention was Chinonso Okoye. The convention was at Redeemed Christian Church of God Regional Camps and Gardens, Igwuruta, Rivers State. It held from the 11th to 15th of November, 2020. This convention held in November because of the Corona Virus and End Sars saga in the world and Nigeria respectively. 

In August 2022, FECA Nigeria hosted her 14th National Convention, tagged Overcomers and it happened in Lagos zone. Well, many FECAites are talking about the convention.  
Read about the 14th National Convention here. Finally, the convention was a huge success. The venue for the Overcomers convention was Redemption Camp, Lagos/Ogun Express way. The convention date was 24th to 28th of August. 

8. FECA Motto and Vision

The vision of FECA is a very deep concept that when it is understood, there is going to be little pressure from leaders to tell someone to take action. What I'm trying to say is that sometimes people do outreaches "because President said we should do it", or because "it is what the Zonal Coordinator said we should do." Well, the truth is that such a person will not go far in the course of serving the Lord in FECA because the one thing that drives him is not coming from a deep seated understanding of what is at stake and the need for immediate cum effective action steps. Testimonies of people who do well in leadership show that they took things personal; they did not do eye-service, neither did they do lip-praises. They understood the "Why". They knew that if this thing is not done, somebody will die. That is how far they see it. For instance the story of Hosanna Ephraim, where he said he feel like if he does not do it, someone will die. 

With that said, let's look at the vision of FECA and what it really means, not just the line of words. FECA Vision statement says, "Redeeming the desolation of our land and Generation." It is taken from the book of Isaiah 61:4.  And the vision of FECA is in three parts. The first part says: "To unite and follow up born again Christian youths; ex-students of Federal Government Colleges and other private and state schools (Universities, Polytechnics and Vocational Training Schools) in Nigeria." The second part says: " Encouraging in the faith those still in schools, and reach out to those not yet saved, and to other youths in general all over the country." And the third part says: " Aimed at redeeming the desolation of our land and generation."
It is the duty of the chapters to ensure that the youths in general all over t he country are saved. 

What does FECA Vision entail?
In the pursuit of this vision, just as I mentioned in the paragraphs above, it entails taking this vision personal, it means you have to think like you are the CEO of FECA. There are so many things that one can think of when he takes a matter personal. So when you see that things are not working fine in the chapter, fix it; be the first person that will volunteer for a task, be the one that will not give the Zonal Coordinators headache, or even the Presidency or the executives; attend outreaches often; never be in the eye-service category; be genuine in reaching out to people, take personal prayers and Bible study seriously; visitations are great way to show people that you care, and don't go empty handed. 

The Motto of FECA is, "Keep the Vision Burning."

9. What is Papae and Mamae in FECA?
Most of the time, in some FECA chapters, the word that is used o describe the president of the chapter is Papa and the vice president is called Mama. This is very conventional. But what is not conventional is the fact that some other chapters have coined a sweeter version of the title. They call their presidents, Papae and their vice presidents they call Mamae. As for the origin of the duo terms, no one knows for sure, but the pattern of address is very familiar in many FECA Nigeria Eastern zones, like in Enugu Zone. 

Of course, the first time I heard of the word, I was wondering what that meant until I asked someone and she explained to me the meaning of Papae and Mamae. I laughed and said, "that sounds nice" and then I began calling the president and vice president Papae and Mamae respectively. Because the names are easy to recall and utilize, easy to pronounce, and thus one cannot forget it in a hurry. Most of the time, past presidents and past vice presidents who have served in the chapter are still referred to with the same title even after they must have left, and so there would be many Papaes and many Mamaes. For this reason, when talking to someone about a particular president, in order to distinguish the personality involved, one would add the name of the president after mentioning the word, Papae. An example is a statement like this: "During our 2020 reunion, Papae John Onuorah was present and I also saw Papae Temple Losa with his new wife!"

But, what if a lady is the president and a young man is the vice president in the chapter? How do we call the persons involved with the titles? This can be very confusing, and probably difficult for someone to understand. Like me, the first time I was told the title of the female president and the title of the male vice president, I did not remember it. In fact, I totally did not get the idea. But with time, I was able to grasp the full meaning of the titles. So the title for the female president of a chapter in FECA is Pamae and the title for the male vice president of a chapter is Mapae. 

10. Twenty (20) terms that are associated with FECA Nigeria
There are some terms that are very perculiar to FECA Nigeria. These terms may be found in other organizations, or companies, and they may denote one things or another in these companies. But in FECA, they denote a totally different thing. A list of 20 terms that are used in FECA Nigeria include:
  1. Congress : This is the gathering of all the executives, both the General Coordinators and the executives for the purpose of decision making and reports  presentation. Read more about Congress here.
  2. Convention: Convention is like a conference that sees FECAites come together in a particular location in Nigeria and they are talked to by the speakers, National leaders and guest ministers. The purpose of convention is to build FECAites in the word of God and to train the next generation of Godly youths in Nigeria. 
  3. SGN: This means Save Generation Next. It is the program in FECA whereby FECAites reach out to primary and nursery school children with the Gospel.
  4. Papae: This is the president of a FECA Nigeria chapter. 
  5. Leader: This is the person that is elected into an office in FECA Nigeria. Read more about the offices in FECA Nigeria and their responsibilities. 
  6. FWB: Freshers Welcome Banquet (FWB). This is the singular program in FECA that is meant to formally induct new members. Read more about Freshers Banquet here.
  7. Mamae: This is the vice president of a FECA chapter in Nigeria. 
  8. Fresher: A fresher is the person in FECA who is new in the Christian organization. Read more about Freshers here. 
  9. WRC: This is Western Regional Convention. 
  10. ERC: This means Eastern Regional Convention.
  11. NERC: This means North-East Regional Convention.
  12. NWRC: This means North-West Regional Convention.
  13. Retreat: This is a time set out by FECAites to have deeper communion with God through all-night prayers, house retreat, School outreach retreat, and Street retreat.
  14. Genco: A Genco is a General Coordinator. A General Coordinator is an individual who is duly elected into one of the offices that is not in the eight Constitutional offices. For example, Music leader is a Genco, Drama leader is a Genco, Technical leader, Ushering coordinator, etc.
  15. Chapter: A chapter in FECA Nigeria is a body of believers who come together on specific days and have fellowship together. They are also in touch with each other because they are (most of the time) living in the same State/location/vicinity. 
  16. Raking: This is the fare punishment that a leader, executive or Congressman receives during Leadership training, Congress or retreats. It usually comes from top leaders.
  17. Zone: A zone in FECA Nigeria is a State. Read more about zones here.
  18. Region: A region in FECA Nigeria is a section, or a geo-political zone that embodies a good number of Zones. 
  19. Exco: This is a member of the constitutional leaders.
  20. Congressman: This is any of the constitutional and non-constitutional leader who is eligible to attend Congress in FECA by the reason of being elected into an office.
