Meta, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, is leveraging its $165 billion in annual advertising revenue to construct a massive artificial intelligence data center that will rival the size of Manhattan. This immense multi-gigawatt facility is part of Meta’s ambitious drive into “superintelligence” and will support the company’s new Superintelligence Labs division, aimed at advancing AI capabilities beyond human intelligence.
The first of these superclusters, named Prometheus, is set to go online in 2026, with follow-up centers like Hyperion designed to scale up to 5 gigawatts. Meta plans to spend hundreds of billions of dollars over the coming years on these projects, both to create the world’s most powerful AI infrastructure and to attract top AI researchers—some reportedly offered packages worth up to $100 million. The unprecedented scale and investment reflect Meta’s determination to outpace rivals like OpenAI and Google in the global AI race, while transforming its business far beyond social media into the leading edge of artificial intelligence.
